Problem making charts in Word 2007

Everytime I want to insert or alter a chart in Word 2007, I get a window that pops up stating "configuring Microsoft Office Professional 2007" and I have to wait up to 2 minutes for this to pass. Also, the actual charting tool looks very old fashioned and not liek Excel 2007 which is what the chart feature is supposed to come up as.
Anyone any ideas? This can't possibly be by design.
