Vipre antivirus software

Anybody using Vipre antivirus yet? It is made by the Sunbelt Software, who do CounterSpy. I was thinking about trying it out as the emails they send me always make it sound so good, and there is a special offer on for today only, 20 dollars off = $9.95. Other licenses available for multiple users too. And no this is not meant as an advertisement for them, I genuinely want to know what other users think of Vipre!

  • I can't see any references to this AV on AV comparison web sites or in recent AV lab tests so it's difficult for me to give an opinion on it I'm afraid.

I'd want to see the facts on how well it does in the labs before spending my hard earned dosh on this rather than ESET NOD32 or Kaspersky...

The following may be worth a read...

Sunbelts firewall seems to create the odd random 'connection problem', so id really not be delving into their anti virus software just yet (Especially as you have to pay for it)

Any company who needs to push their AV software as much as Sunbelt do in the emails I receive need to be given a wide berth.

Yes, I use Vipre and Sunbelt Firewall. Both excellent and have saved me from viruses a few times now!

Does it come as any great surprise to you that a software manufacturer speaks very highly of its product?

I have Kaspersky on my desktop and Vipre on my wife's netbook, and no problems with it as yet. It seems very good.

The problem with testing av programs you know nothing about is that they might 'seem' to be fine, but could in fact be letting viruses through you know nothing about

That is very true of anything, in fact it can be as much down to the configuration as much as down the the program.

On a side issue, I see that Vipre compared well when tested against Symantec and Macafee in a report that is downladable from their website.

There is a new version coming out, in beta at the moment. It will include URL filtering, firewall etc. I have the beta on my laptop and its running well.

On the downside, Mcafee is absolutely awful
