  • Hi ladies!

Oh lordy - so tired today - my brain isn't functioning!

Haven't updated my siggy but will do when I have found all the receipts from the weekend.

Made some christmas pudding icecream - no recipe, just bought some nice soft scoop vanilla and a cheapie Christmas pud (tried it with expensive ones, no difference in taste really). I cook it and let it cool, then take the icecream out of the freezer, scoop half into another freezable container and then crumble the Christmas pud into the icecream and stir it in and then pop it back in the freezer til you want to eat it. Really simple. My OH doesn't like christmas pud all that much but he does eat it like this.

Hope you are all doing well with your personal challenges this month

    Hi everyone,
Kind of fallen off the GC thread wagon, what with being ill and DS being ill, and it being cold and windy (comfort food urges). Have not gone over the December budget, this said the December budget has been £300! Have all the Christmas stuff in other than sprouts (well have some frozen ones but think will buy fresh), chipolatas and the usual milk/bread etc for the Christmas meal. Am refusing to over-indulge too- people seem to forget Christmas is not about presents, tinsel, food, cake, family parties and expensive gifts etc , it is to mark the birth of Jesus! :)
Plan to make a late Christmas cake, some mince pies, maybe some other bits and bobs (some gingerbread tree decorations maybe). I think I will be a lurker from now on, simply don't have the time to be online as much these days- am trying to be out and about more (well now our colds are subsiding anyway!) and also play lots with DS too!
Ok, hope this is not too chatty (mods feel free to delete me!). Wishing you all a lovely Christmas and New Year.

  • Think I'm actually doing quite well this month. Have spent around £26 and hopefully I won't have to spend anything more before Monday (which is when I'm heading back to my parents for Christmas for a week) and then I'll just have to buy a few bits and pieces when I come back (milk, etc) to keep me going into the new year so looking at quite a cheap month in groceries! :)
(Although looking at a fortune for meals out and everything else!!!!!)

ps Just noticed I now have a star! :)

Also wanted to say that I've successfully made my first ever Christmas cake at the weekend!

  • Hello - have been trying very hard...and can't believe we are half way through the month and i have only spent £33.79!!
I shall have to probably do a significant shop at the weekend, but till then, I am still running down the freezer, and have only bought bread and milk as top ups.
I made a vegetable cottage pie last week using up baked beans and have still got some aside in the freezer. Am batch cooking fish pies at the mo; we shall eat one tonight and the other can also go in the freezer.
I am really surprised at this, and rather chuffed. Role on 2009!!!

  • Not such a good weekend. Moneywise that is. I spent quite a bit without much to show for it. Not enough food and too much in the "miscellaneous" category. Must try harder. Luckily the budget only has to take me up to Christmas and not beyond so I'm sure I can still do it. At least with my little spreadsheet I now know what I actually spend my money on as opposed to it disappearing into a big black hole...

  • Hi All,

Just about on track with spending. Still have one or two 'biggies' to buy ie turkey crown but - on the plus side - freezer is full to bursting with ordinary stuff.

Am trying to keep away from shops to avoid temptation to overspend on tempting seasonal goodies
