What accessories do I need for a 2G I-Pod Touch?

I've just bought a second generation I-Pod Touch for a christmas present and now want to buy some accessories for it. I have no idea what actually needs to go with it. I've already ordered the USB adapter charger from Apple so that it doesn't have to be charged through the computer. I'm now looking for something to protect it against scratches and any damage.
There seems to be a few different options. Silicone, crystal and leather cases that I don’t know which is the best one to choose or which places have the best deals. Which is better out of crystal or silicone? I like the look of the black silicone cases more than clear ones but are they just as safe?
Can anyone with a I-Pod Touch recommend a good case for it?
I was going to order this one: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=345;16;476;-1;233&sku=861853 but I'm not sure if it is over priced or if that's a general price.
If I bought that case would I still need to buy the plastic screen protectors? Like these: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=345;16;476;-1;233&sku=727727 and are they all the same size no matter which generation you have?

I was in the same position as you with deciding on what case to get a few weeks back - in the end a bought a few £3 inc p&p cases of ebay to try and settled on a black crystal hard case.
I would of prefered a leather style flip case but the one I've seen look naff or like a woman's purse
for screen protectors look at invisable sheild or bestskinsever (videos on youtube)0 -
Thanks for the ideas. It's given me some things to think about! I've had a look around and although the Invisible shield protectors do look good, it's a bit more than I wanted to pay. Maybe it's worth it though..I'm still thinking it over!
I found a screen protector at Amazon for £2 so that seems like a good deal considering I was about to pay £7 at another shop.
I also found this case: http://www.amazon.co.uk/FoneM8-Touch-Silicone-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B001HF80OU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&m=A3CV872FYAAA4E&s=generic&qid=1227891215&sr=1-2 which is only about £2.
Do you think it should be strong enough? I think I'm just worried that because the I-Pod is so thin that it's going to break or something.0 -

The amazon marketplace case comes to £4 including postage, it looks like one of the silcon cases I got, it fitted great but it turned out to be a dull grey instead of black. Another silcon case I got was the right colour black and texture but the design for the buttons was wrong which made using the volume difficult. Silcon case a soft, no case will protect a fall very well but should combat scratches.
I got a black crystal case, which is a hard case, heres pictures of mine

I got it of ebay :-

replace !!! with t i n y u r l (without the spaces)0 -
Thanks, the pictures helped. I like the black crystal case that you have. I think I now prefer the crystal cases to the silicone ones!
I've not used ebay before and I'd be worried it wouldn’t arrive in time for Christmas.
I found this one: http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/6736031/iPod-Touch-2G-Crystal-Case/Product.html
It looks very similar but it does look more clear instead of black. I don’t think that will make too much difference though and the description of it sounds good.
If it says that the ipod can be used while the case is on, then I wouldn’t need to buy any screen protectors separately would I? They still confuse me!0 -
My case took 4 working days to arrive from china.
These cases don't protect the screen, just the back and sides. I don't have a screen protector on mine but I am thinking of getting one to protect the glass from getting scratched - invisable screen is abit to expensive for me but I think I will order from besteverskins in the new year, for the moment I'm not putting it in pockets that have other items like keys/coins0 -
Thanks. I've just ordered the crystal case and some screen protectors to go with it.
If by any chance they don’t arrive in time, we'll just make sure the I-Pod is used very carefully and that it's put away safe and not near anything that might scratch it.
I was just looking at the paid apps in itunes, just to get a rough idea of what there is and what prices and I noticed that there's a few games in the sale down to 59p.
Do you know if it would be alright to buy these now and have them saved in itunes while the price is cheap even if the ipod wont be used until Christmas? It's just I thought I might as well get them while they are cheap and they can be transferred to the ipod later on.0
