Dimension 1100 Desktop - anyone know if this has a built in network-card thingy for connection to Broadband (as opposed to using a USB)??

Also, is the video editing option worth having?

(Thinking of buying this PC for the folks - they like their camcorder!!)

    Thanks Dudes,

    Duder

Yes, this PC has built in 10/100 ethernet, but note that it only has 3 PCI slots and no AGP slot. So, if you do want to uprate the video (from what is built in) at a later date, you need to get a PCI (NOT PCI-Express) video card. PCI video cards are thin on the ground - not a lot of call for them.

However, this is still a very good PC with the 2.8Ghz or above Celeron (the person who said not to touch this with a Celeron is talking out of their bottom). I have one which I have built as a Windows Media Centre, and several of my friends have bought them to use as servers - particularly DMUK4 - D01113 for £272 via the epp site - as it comes with 160GB disk and a DVD/CDRW drive.

That said, I doubt that this model is really up to processor intensive opertation required for video editing - so I would forget adding that on.

That was the original posted deal wasn't it???!

I ordered one on Fri and it comes tomorrow... :j bargain as a basic PC for kids to do homework despite limitations. By the time it needs upgrading, it'll be obsolete anyway!

By the way, I second Woody's opinion above about this same D01113 machine: Celerons are excellent CPUs. No they are not up to running the latest games (for which you'll also need a powerful graphics card), but for everything else they're great value.

I too already have a 2.8 Celeron in a media centre and it's fine. Even video editing might be OK if you are not decoding/re-encoding the MPEG files (e.g. to shrink existing files to fit it into a limited space, say on a DVD or CD). It's the rendering that takes time.

For those who want one without a monitor I suggest going for this one which is only £234 (I ordered one this afternoon):

Celeron 3.06Ghz, 512MB RAM, 80GB, 48xDVD/CDRW, Intel Media Accelerator 900 Graphics, Keyboard and Mouse, Windows XP Professional Edition, 1 Year Collect and Return Warranty.

    the E-value code is 1-D01311

Ashy-mashy - I can only get it down to £294 with the 1 year collect and return warranty. Has the price changed or is there something else I need to alter?

    Thanks.

I read on a different forum that Dell change their prices late on a Wednesday evening...

Don't know if this is accurate....

    Cheers

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - this offer expired on 11 Jan. They're now doing a marginally different offer with free double RAM but you have to pay for the delivery and not the sub-£300 deal it was before.

Even then you had to select 90 days support - I paid a bit more to get a 1 year warranty and the recovery CDs.
