Getting out of BT contract

Hello all
Is there anyway I can get out of my BT contract?
Moved into a new house in June last year that did not have a telephone line installed. The only provider who could install a line was BT so ended up going with them.
I am paying £14.99 a month for line rental and £24.99 for internet but have recently seen much better deals from Tiscalli and the like.
Am I stuck with BT for 12 months or can I get out of deal?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

You will probably be tied into a contract for your line rental, however you can register with any carrier pre-select provider at any time.0

I think you're only stuck with BT for your line rental for 12 months.
So, phone 0800 800 150 and downgrade to BT Together Option 1 immediately - that'll take your BT line rental cost down to £11 per month (£12 if you don't pay by DD).
Next, do you need that expensive BB? I'm on BT Basic BB (£17.99) and find it adequate - but I'm not into music/video downloading.
As phoneman44 says, there's nothing to stop you signing up with a CPS for your calls - Primus Saver Option 2 is offering free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls.
Then consider 1899, 1886, 18185 for overseas calls and 18185 for calls to mobiles.
That'll be 10% please!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

The OP had a new line installed, (he did not take over existing line), so the min term for a new line is 12 months see :http://www.bt.com/lines/lo_na_home.jsp?obsNoSee=Y&vStore=1114&obsPage=/reconnect/index.jsp&obsType=LINK&obsOID=83053PF.0 -
