This is not a bargain per se but as it is life saving and this board has a big readership, I have posted it here.
Everyone knows they need a smoke alarm but not everyone knows they need a carbon monoxide alarm (colourless odourless poisonous gas).
We learnt this at the weekend when it was discovered that smoke was recirculating (with carbon monoxide) in the house from an open coal fire. Our daughter had carbon monoxide poisoning but as it was discovered in time will hopefully be OK.
Symptoms can be vague and look like a cold/ flu or food poisoning:
CLues are that:
(this is taken from CMO report into carbon monoxide:the forgotten killer 1998)
Carbon monoxide is produced by burning any fuel- coal/oil/wood or gas so everyone needs one as you never know when there may be a problem with your heating.
The monitors only cost £20-£30 and are available from Tesco/ B and Q/ Amazon. We got a fire angel one from B and Q which gives a reading of carbon monoxide and an alarm when the level is dangerous.

Yes, thanks MissBailey.
Here is a link to B and Q- there are some reductions on CO alarms and I believe there is a 15% off voucher in the Sun this weekend too.

We bought the Fire Angel LED alarm from B&Q a while ago: http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=10256479&fh_view_size=6&fh_location=%2f%2fcatal!!!1%2fen_GB&fh_search=CARBON+MONOXIDE+MONITOR&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1227881183515&isSearch=true Unfortunately it's not available online, but seems to be much cheaper from here than elsewhere. You can check on the website to see if it is in stock in your local store. It's very easy to use and has a reassuring green flashing light so you know its working0 -
I will add my agreement - my sister and her boyfriend died when they were 28 from Carbon Monoxide poisoning..an ill fitting flue in his house..0

I am really sorry to hear that bushcaro. It is tragic.
We have been kicking ourselves about this since we discovered it. We just never associated carbon monoxide with anything other than gas.
It should be law for everyone to have a carbon monoxide alarm and smoke alarm. They have done this in some states in America and virtually eliminated carbon monoxide related deaths in those areas.0 -

LLoyds pharmacy are selling one for £12.99, think I'll pick one up tomorrow. Quick question, do you just have one in the room where your boiler or fire is or in every room? I've only got the boiler in the bathroom cupboard so wondered if I should put it in the bathroom, I haven't got any other heating or gas appliances.

In new builds or renovations, it is law, i believe. I think building regs state they have to be fitted, only know as we now have them due to extensive renovation work, although i'm only going on what the builders have told me. I've just had a look for the instuctions for ours and it appears that the builder must have them, so i cannot confirm this, but i will be asking the building inspector when he comes.
But i agree, there really should be more of a campaign to make people more aware of this-silent killer.:)Henry James Born 18/03/2011-11 days late!:)
