Can you use a laptop as a monitor?

I know that I can hook an external monitor to my laptop, but can I run a desktop PC through the laptop?
I need to install an OS and a few bits on a desktop for a charity, but forgot about the need for those inconvenient plug-in screens!

Though no-one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.

I'm not aware of any way of doing this without physically removing the screen from the laptop and modifying the connection to plug in to the PC. Not something i'd recommend, nor is it something I can tell you how to do.
Do you or any of your friends/colleagues have a monitor that can be borrowed for a day or two? Much simpler that way.“Things that I felt absolutely sure of but a few years ago, I do not believe now. I get the feeling that would require client software of some kind on the desktop (as with other remote control/monitoring software). Potentially useful later but not likely to help with installing the OS

no client reqd other than MaxVista s/w but it does require an OS !

slighty misunderstood your requirment0 -
Thanks, folks - I think borrowing a screen is the only option - if I can think of someone who has one spare!

Can you not just plug the desktop into a TV?
(some HD TVs even have a video input the same as a computer monitor)0 -
If you have a LCD TV of any kind it should have a vga connection to connect to the PC as all the cheapo lcd's have a pc connection for use as a monitor, however some of them are not much use for this, but good enough for your purpose. A CRT tv isn't suitable it lacks the vga socket0
