i have just been to Tescos and purchased a Dyson DC07 Animal Bagless Cyclonic Upright Vac which they are advertising at £100 off for only £185.
Having got home and looked on line this vac can only be purchases from a few places and it is around the same price.
i really feel as if i have been conned when i thought i was getting a bargain.
are they allowed to do this?
do i have any redress. if i were saving £100 as they are saying this vac would only be £85!
no idea where to start on this one anyone any advice?

You redress? Take it back and get a refund. Otherwise same as it ever was: caveat emptor.0

i can do that , but my question really is. are they legally allowed to state that it is £100 cheaper when it blatantly is not. isn't that deception? it isn't for sale anywhere at much more than they are selling it for.0
-
They're allowed to, if they have charged the higher price in a certain number of their stores for at least 30 days beforehand.
There probably was £100 off their previous price, so the only option if unhappy would be to take it back and get a refund in my opinion.0 -
The £100 they refer to is, i assume, off the RRP.
So if the RRP is £285, then it will be £100 off.
I think legally, they only need to be selling it at the higher price within the last 28 days or something.
Doesnt matter what others are selling it for.
This is why i usually research an offer or large purchase first.0 -
I think all Tesco has to do is have it at that price somewhere in the country for so many weeks and then state the reduction and they're not breaking any laws.
If I'm going for something a bit pricey I find it's best to look online first as the shops can really pull you in with what look like bargains.0 -
There will probably have been some indication on the sel detailing where and when Tescos were charging the higher price. Have a quck whizz round with it then take it back.........Only joking just take it back if your not happy.0

I do sympathise with you.
A couple of weeks ago I purchased a hannah montana air guitar from tesco direct after a posting on mse which said it was reduced to 12.95 from 49.97.
When the guitar arrived I thought it really didnt look worth more than 12.00 and searched the net to find it retailing at £10-13s in all places and no other companies calling this a reduced price?
I emailed tescos and complained saying it was misrepresenting the price and said i would like to know where it had been sold at the higher price. They replied stating that they had previously sold it at the higher price and i could return it if not happy.
Whilst I know they might not be doing anything wrong legally, I did feel a bit miffed and will be looking more carefully at their so called bargains in future!0 -
Lot of money to spend on a Dyson, for less than the OP paid they could have got a proper vacuum like a Miele cat and Dog.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

This thread is another reason why I never shop at Tesco :mad:Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.
All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional0
