Windows Live Messenger

How can I stop this appearing at startup? I keep removing from startup in CCleaner but it keeps reappearing every now and again!

Also, I've switched Automatic Updates off. Is there any way to stop that balloon appearing after I switch on telling me that I've switched Automatic Updates off and that my PC may be at risk, etc, etc.

I'm not too familiar with the specifics of live messenger but I know some software needs to be told not to load when windows starts in it's own preferences - if it is removed from startup by other means it simply puts itself back next time it's opened.

Somewhere in the security centre aplet (in control panel) there should be an option to 'change the way windows notifies me...' or words to that affect - you can disable automatic update warnings here.

I would turn auto updates on.

Windows Live messenger - Open messenger, then click on tools, options. Click on General on the left hand side, and then on the right, uncheck "automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to windows" and uncheck "allow automatic sign in when connected to the internet" if you don't want it to sign you in automatically either.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

To remove messenger from startup :

    Start > Run. Type :

    msconfig

    Click :

    Startup

    Remove the tick from :

    msmsgs

Double click on the balloon and there should be an option somewhere 'change the way windows notifies me about automatic updates' or words to that effect. It should bring up another menu. Remove the ticks and the ballon will disappear.
