Get some energy saving ones. Most are so dim you will barely be able to see a thing, & will soon be asking us where the best place to get reading glasses are

I have 40w candle bulbs in my 3 wall lights and find them really dim. It's probably because i've got daylight bulbs in the kitchen and they have white light, not the horrible yellow that's in the livingroom.0

I've got a 10 watt bulb in a Moroccan lantern, so 'really dim' does exist!
I find my local electrical shop, rather than one of the big stores, is great for 'unusual' bulbs."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -
You can get 1W led based bulbs for this type of application, plus as they're LED they last 50k hours.
