Yes, you can download the data and show it in graphical form.

Yes, you can always phone in, usually on an automated freephone number, your latest readings and a revised bill will be produced.

... or for those more internet savvy, you can supply your readings online with many companies (and usually get a significant discount too for agreeing to manage your account totally online)

I see, but also I want an easy(ish) life. I like the fact that it seems all automatic that first utility read the meter and produce the bills without me having to call them or go online ands give the figures. I would never remember to take the readings so this seems an ideal solution for people like me that want it all done automatically.

Please be VERY careful when looking at their prices. I'm paying less with Scottish Power at the moment than their (First Util) post price reduction prices.

As I said I'm paying around £1800 annually for 2 people in a bungalow, anything other than what I'm on now would be cheaper as I'm probaby on the most expensive tariffs - never looked at others.

So first utility would get me conserving and thinking about my energy supply. I'm not saying everyone should use them, I'm saying for me they seem good in the way that it's all automated, I'm never in debt with an energy company and the lessons I learn with them regarding what uses lot of energy in my home I can carry on to other suppliers and have even chepaer bills at the end of the two years, or stay with them if I don't see any need to change.

That sounds like an horrendous bill for just the 2 of you.I live in a 4 bed detached house and pay half that! (I'm with Scottish Power on a Fixed tariff)

I feel sorry for the staff @ first utility. They have about 6000 customers at present and given the publicity they are getting they will be getting deluged with enquires.
I also worry that if the customer service systems these small companies have could handle a huge increase in customers. Independent Energy offered cheaper prices, hugely increased their customer base but their systems couldn't support this and they ultimately went bust
  • British Gas are starting to roll out smart meters from early 2009, and aim to have all customers on one in the next five years.
There such a good idea, and will help save consumers and suppliers millions.
    Sunny in Southampton.

    Did you join First Utility?

Neither the gas or electricity prices are competitive with internet tariffs.

The same criticism as above and in the other threads still applies.

Why on earth would anyone pay a connection fee(and exit fee) to be tied into a 2 year contract to pay higher prices - all for the sake of a posh meter!!

Their electricity tariffs have taken 'confusion marketing' to a new level.
