I am trying to set up a wireless home network using AOL and a Netgear DG834G router. I have set up a second desktop PC using a Netgear WG111 USB connector and it works fine.
I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop with a built in Atheros AR5005G wireless adaptor. I cant get AOL to recognise and lock onto the wireless signal. The adaptor is run via Odyssey software. If I disable this, the Windows Network Screen locks onto the signal fine, but AOL doesnt use this !
I'm now out of my depth !
Has anyone come across this problem before please? If not does anyone have the telephone support number for Netgear in the UK?
IVe tried ringing Fujitsu but as the laptop was bought from PC World they wont have anything to do with me, and the PC World helpline is worse than useless.....!
Please help........

Hi
I have just been introduced to wirless networking by the kids. I bought the cheap Linkskys stuff from PC world. I had a real nightmare with it. However they provide a freephone telephone number for support. I spent 2 hours on the phone to a wonderful guy who could not have been more helpful if he tried. Result internet all over the house. I suggest you take back if poss your exsisting stuff and buy Linkskys. Anything with a free phone technicle helpline is a bargin.
Or you could be really cheeky and ring their helpline number.

Morning!
I thought I'd been in touch with Netgear via the phone, but I can't seem to find a number at the moment. You could always try their email support Here.
As a secondary point, you say that AOL won't work with the standard Windows wireless connection. Does it give you some error and is this Odyssey affiliated with AOL (I'm not very familiar with them).
Post back and I'll see what I can do - I've set up a few wi-fi networks, each with their problems :rolleyes:0 -

The AOL instructions are to set up the connection using the wireless adaptor sortware. Odyssey is the software provided by Fujitsu Siemens to run the Atheros adaptor. No error message is received - when I try to run the AOL connectivity software, the only way of getting online it sees is the built in modem.
Odyssey is not affliated to AOL in any way.I believe it is run by a firm called Funk Software.
I think its that the wireless adaptor software is not configured properly but thats where I'm stumped !0 -
OK, I understand.
From a cursory look round, it seems you should be able to configure AOL to use an option called "Broadband connection" or "Broadband networking" as it's connectivity option (may only be available in 9.0 or above). From this, it should be possible to use the ordinary Windows Wireless connection from within (I think!).
If you're not on version 9.0 or above, this could also be the problem...
[EDIT: Found this which might be of use?]0
