NTL saving

I contacted NTL as our bill was over £60 every month. We have 1mb Broadband £17.99 Talk Unlimited 24 £25 Caller Display £1.75 then line calls at over £20 each month. Because we have tel and internet they gave me a £5.50 discount immediately then went through my account and found that I would be better off with Talk Unlimited at £12.50 and to pay the £2 a month to discount mobile calls. Hopefully, this will make a considerable difference to my bills!

That £12.50 appears to be NTL's Talk Unlimited Local so non-local calls are now chargeable.

For those, you'd save by using call1899.co.uk. You'd have to access via their 0808 1 708 708 freephone number but, AFAICS, at 3p connnection and ½p/minute, the calls would be a lot cheaper (NTL charge 6p connection and 3p per minute).

You might find it a good idea to compare NTL's charges for those mobile calls with call1899.co.uk's too.

Sorry PF, I was obviously a bit slow with my edit there).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

By using 1899 (0808 Access No) you would also save money on your Mobile Calls during Peak and possibly weekends against NTL Mobile Saver Charges.
1899 Peak 10p a min,Offpeak 3p a min. Connection Charge 3p.During Evenings NTL slightly more competitive except on 3.Depending on what networks you call and when you call them, you might be able to dispense with £2 a month charge.

Thanks Heinz and PF! Obviously didn't read the forums properley as I thought you had to be a BT customer to use 1899. I will look into this further - very many thanks!
Don't you just love saving money? :D
