Think after a few weeks the SKY+ box will refuse to work. They call back to SKY every so often and if you're SKY Card has been cancelled or no card in it, the box will sometimes refuse to record or play stored programs. Same happens if it's not plugged into the phone line...

No. You need to pay £10 a month for that.

    thanks conor
  • Conor is correct.

My old SKY+ box is now simply a freeview box with no SKY+ functionality.

I have two Sky + boxes and for the last twelve months neither have been connected to the phone line. Both still work ok with updates being downloaded via the dish as usual. I also have a Sky digibox, connected via a second dish, which has a Sky viewing card that was bought from Sky for £20 that covers extra channels that freeview does not.

To be honest if you are not planning on going back to Sky you might as well sell the Sky+ box on eBay. They sell pretty well, especially during this time of year.

Then just get yourself a standard free view box.
