  • Bloody hell thats a bit steep. To skim the ceiling would cost about £200 (depending on where you live). So he's charging you over £600 to supply and fit the lights. I bought some down lighters for my dining room last year that cost me £40 for 2 packs from BnQ, then theres the cable, £25 ish, so add that up and he's charging you £535 to fit the lights. I would get a couple more quotes if i were you.
  • What region do you live in?

As that's steep in my opinion.

I live in the Midlands and I'm paying approx £1000 including vat for a 17x10 dining room to be rendered half way and then plastered, walls (top to bottom) and ceiling. because I've had a door moved I've also had the wall in the adjoining room plaster. Along with this work he also has moved light switches and sockets.

Granted I took all the old plaster off and had a friend apply the first coat of render but I still think I got a good deal.

So yeah, in my opinion £815 for one ceiling is steep.

  • I recently paid about £600 to have my whole bedroom reskimmed, which I think is about 14 x 15 (including having a bit of dodgy waterprone area patched up and made good) - then I believe the new lighting in the room (4 downlights + dimmer switch) came to about £200 in total. I think that the downlights were priced at abouto £45 a light to fit - so we could have adjusted the price by doing less or more.

With the bedroom we were talking about just doing 1 wall of plastering and the ceiling - but it really wasn't too much more to just do the whole room so we went ahead with the whole room for consistency. We got quotes on both.

This is for work in London - we did get quotes from a few people and they were all around this region - we eventually went with the fellow we did because he was recommended by our trusty plumber.

Just wish I could afford to do my lounge too.
