Flight cancellation refunds

I know this is vaguely similar to another post however I'm just looking for some confirmation here. It seems likely that my flight to Bangkok (Sat) will be cancelled, and I just want to be prepared.
It looks to me as though there is no way I can get my money back, however being quite new to MSE, there may be something I'm missing that you can point out.
I booked on eBookers with a credit card. I have AA Travel insurance. So, in terms of where I can get a refund:
eBookers are not responsible, due to the exceptional circumstances, they referred me to the airline.
The flight is not covered by Travel Insurance, they referred me to the airline.
I have yet to get through to the airline (which I will try again tomorrow/when flight does get cancelled), however I suspect that as the issue, civil unrest, is outside their control, that this will exclude them from having to refund my flight. If anyone has been in a similar position, your experience would be useful.
I had wondered if I could claim back from my VISA card, under section 75, however it appears (from info on this site) that as I booked via a third party, that I am not covered.
I also found another EU compensation scheme on this site, but this again excludes things like civil unrest.
I'm thinking that I am not going to be able to get the money back - have I missed any avenue of refund here?
And if anyone has any experience of similar, it would also be useful to know if airlines tend to re-allocate folk from cancelled flights onto flights once service resumes.
Thank you in advance.

My understanding is that the airline will refund your flight.Gone ... or have I?0

The EU compensation scheme rules out extra compensation for things like civil unrest, yes - but it doesn't rule out a refund (from the airlie)0

Who is the airline? Airlines are offering refunds or re-booking for cancelled flights, most running two days in advance. If the airline doesn't fly, of course you will get a 100% refund. Call them today and find out their position.0
