I have been facing this horrible experience.
I was installing Sky broadband CD on my Desktop (Dell Dimension 2400) XP.
Everything went well until in the end it asked if I wanted to install Macafee and update the system.
I say 'yes'.
Although Sky asked me to disable all firewalls and anti virus, I did not do it.
My desktop turned off with meassage 'fatal error..windows has recovered from..error 0X0000008E with blue background'.
My sky broadband is ok as I can use it from laptop. However, my desktop is getting switched off in 1 minute of turning it on.Home screen is only lasting for 1 minute and then this error coming with blue background and pc turned off.
Could you please help me?
Many thanks.
I phoned Dell and they charge.....
Thanks in advance

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode, and then doing a System Restore to a point before you made these last changes?
You should then be able to try the installation again.0 -

Thanks.
I tried safe mode but it is not working.
In safe mode, cursor gets stuck and I can not move it.
Did you have anti-virus software installed before you installed McAfee?
If yes, the two are probably conflicting. If no, you've probably got a virus that is blocking McAfee from working correctly.0 -
Try selecting the option to start from last known good configuration on the safe mode area. This works better than system restoreFreebies you don't really need can be given to your local Hospice Charity shop so they can raise funds they desperately need. Pass on your good fortune :A0
