Is my meter faulty?
I have recently had my electricity meter changed over from a pre-pay one so that I can now pay by direct debit.
My new meter (Ampy single phase) has a red flashing led which flashes when a watt has been used so after 1000 flashes it registers a kwh. Firstly the meter display has gone off so I have no idea what is being used, I then thought it was flashing too quickly even when 90% of the households goods were turned off. I then turned the electric supply off in the flat but the meter is still flashing.
Does anybody know if this is correct or anything about the meter that may be fitted.

I have the same meter. If it`s light outside the meter will show row of 8`s and then after a few secs you will see the reading. How long did you leave it before you checked that it had stopped flashing.
There is the danger when going from pp to credit meter that you will use more electricity so I would check the readings weekly to make sure you`re paying enough.0

is it a digital meter ? these meters go on a test panel every 10 seconds0

Can I ask why I would use more electric when moving from PP.
Also I would call it a digital meter, could you explain the test panel.0

Ok, if I went to Tesco`s for a pint of milk and only had £1 with me then that`s all i can spend. If I go to Tesco`s with my debit card I`ll spend more.
With a PP meter if you knew you only had a pound or so of credit then you are going to be careful with it. If you have a credit meter then you can use now and worry later!
That`s why I suggested you keep an eye on how much you are using and make sure your direct debit is set to reflect what you are using.0

Cheers space rider for the tip, I will definetly keep my eye on it.
As you have the same meter as me was I correct when I said that once it flashes 1000 times that is a kwh. My concern is that there is definelty no dispaly on the digital screen and the flashing when the electricity supply is turned off. Counting the flashing LED when most things are turned off It was working out about 16 times a minute, so I figured very roughly that it would cost about £3 day or over £20 a week. Thats without using cooker etc. Do these figures seem correct??
I was paying £20 a fortnight on pp, this is why I am wondering if the meter is faulty.0

There should definately be a display on the meter. Only time it should be really hard to see it is if it`s really sunny outside. I`ve never counted the flashes but I know that if I`ve got my electric cooker on it flashes really fast whereas if I read the meter when we are all just entering the house then it`s really slow.0

I fit these meters for a living.....if the screen is blank you have a faulty meter, contact your supplier and they should get someone out to replace it free of charge.0
