Good News on BS Mergers

Merging BS are not going to mean that people will break the £50K limit.

It says this only applies if separate names are kept. But this hardly ever happens after a merger. Nationwide is not likely to keep Cheshire and Derbyshire going as separate names when it did not keep the name of a larger and more successful building society in its previous take-over. Separate names might be kept if the proposed Co-Op/Britannia merger goes through and maybe the Skipton/Scarborough merger. Barnsley isn't big enough to be worth keeping as a separate brand.0
