Nationwide - false ad claims!

You know the Nationwide advert where Mark Benton repeatedly says 'New customers only' to an existing customer? Well, I have just experienced that - by Nationwide!

I'm not slagging them off, just highlighting an inconsistency in their advertising claims.

After reading Money diet (brilliant BTW), I decided to check and (if necessary) change everything that was costing me. I found contents and building insurance £100 cheaper than my existing policy with Nationwide, and telephoned to see if they would pricematch.

The advisor I spoke to told me that because I was an existing customer, they wouldn't pricematch my quote. It turns out that that is only possible for 'new customers only'.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I can't remember the exact ad wording now, but isn't it specifically directed at mortgages?

In the last 5 years, I've yet to find any buildings and/or contents insurance provider that on my annual comparison check isn't beaten by a new provider.
