Shocking service in Argos!

Options
So today I decide to return something to Argos under the 16 day money back guarantee. (I'll reveal what at the end of the post).

Go to the store, when I get to the till the woman dosen't look pleased I have a Argos bag with something inside. I get it out and instantly she asks "What's wrong with it?". I say nothing is wrong with it, it was just a gift for someone that they didn't want (True to an extent). She then inspected the contents and noticed a lot of empty space in the box. Calling the checkout operator next to her, she claims I cannot return it because 'some of the contents were missing' and the item was unsealed (Claiming the item brand is always sealed). I then told her that is exactly how I received the item in question and I had even left the picking ticket on the box. She then spent close to 20 minutes going to see 'her manager' and came back with the item in her arms.

This is when I really got insulted:

"We have decided just for this once to refund you, but next time you will need to return the item as you got it"

They kept accusing ME, that is why I was so insulted. Never did they blame their state of the art () stock system or picking staff. To say I shop at the store on a frequent basis (and a number of staff know my face) and rarely make returns this was a horrible experience and I will never buy such a item from Argos again.

Now, what have I been talking about throughout this thread?

    Oh dear,

There are so many Argos threads on the Vent board now its a wonder they have any customers left!

Glad you got it sorted in the end, thought by the time I got to the end of your post it was going to be something like a mobile phone or something electronic!

Comet figure here a lot, too.

My local "retail park" consists of an Argos, a Comet and a Homebase. I just need a few people to start moaning about Homebase on this board, and I've got a full house!

Maybe we should start a bingo game sort of thing with people having the shops on their local retail park on their card and as soon as there is a vent on the vent board for each of the shops on their local retail park then they have won the game!

Think I could win, my local one has Currys, Comet and Halfords. I have seen all these on the vent board!

Can't fault the staff for saying that, every board game Argos sells is shrink wrapped with the catalogue sticker attached to the wrap. If the wrap and the cat number were missing then it's perfectly reasonable to refuse a return under the sixteen day returns policy - it's specifically excluded under the 'original, un-opened product' clause.

How can the staff who served you today know, for a fact, you received it opened?

I guess you could be disappointed with the wait and perhaps any attitude you felt you received [but hey, the poor !!!!!! who served you works on the CS desk at Argos - The worst job in the world?] but it's unfair to complain about the staff when they're following the correct procedure.

    Best,

I have to balance this thread with the very good service we received tonight. We took an item back that had accessories missing. I had reserved a replacement but that, despite also being sealed, also had the bits missing. The staff could not have been more helpful particularly as this is a heavy item so there was a lot of lifting involved and they had to cut the banding to check the contents. They went through our options but recommended taking a refund for now while they try to sort out with the manufacturer what has gone wrong. They were all pleasant, despite the queue behind us and the fact it was getting near closing time.

They could have accused us of taking the accessories out of the first box, but it was not even suggested.
  • The game should of been sealed.
You can't blame the staff for thinking it had been opened.
It's always worth checking any item that is purchased from Argos BEFORE you get it home if possible. A lot of the 'return' items go straight back into stock without being checked for missing items.
