Basic Account - Which is best?

My partner has 6 settled defaults on his credit report so after saving him from the clutches of Gregory Pennington I got him a Barclays Basic account with Electron card. No Internet Banking with that account though which was a complete pain so after a year we toddled off to Natwest. He now has Natwest's basic account with a Maestro card I think, & full internet banking.
No problems with Natwest, they have faster payments already which works out well for us & for some reason when he cashes cheques in he has access to the money the next day rather than 5 days later (no idea why?). Although Natwest have warned him that if he withdraws the money & the cheque then bounces a couple of days later then there will be trouble!Beautiful DD born Jan 2007

I have a Natwest step account which i've had no probs with other than it has a solo card which can't be used everywhere but you do get internet banking.
I've just opened a TSB basic account which has a Visa debit card which is good but you can only use the card for cash in TSB cashpoints which can be frustrating.
I suppose they all have pros and cons but the one pro is you can't get in any more trouble with them!!Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it0 -
once I leave my NatWest account I will have to send them my summary of expenditure and outgoings in order to pay back my overdraft at a lower amount each month. Currently I am paying £60 per month:mad:
And you want to reduce that monthly payment??
Won't it take you almost 7 years to repay your overdraft already?!0 -
Halifax - EasyCash is the best i've used as it has branch, telephone and full online access plus a visa electron.
Pending transactions (debit card usage) is shown by the difference between balance and available balance.
Co-operative Bank - Cashminder also has branch, telephone and full online access with a visa electron debit card but, trouble I had was any pending transactions (debit card usage) don't show for 2-3 days, you have to goto the cashpoint to see your true balance available.
Natwest - Step is good also as it has branch, telephone and full online access with a solo debit card plus pending transactions (debit card usage) show almost straight away and are individually initialed.
Hope this helpsProudly Banking & Saving With:

At this particular moment, I cannot really afford the £60 each month and so I have been advised by the CCCS to open up a new current account.
I have been with NatWest for over 26 years (having worked for them for 18 years). They really cant help me at the moment and all they want to do is offer me a loan which I cannot get because of my credit file and honestly I really dont want any more loans or credit cards. Just want to move to another provider and take it from there.
My mortgage has been with Halifax for the past 2 years and so I think it best that I go to another provider with whom I dont owe any money to.
I am sure things will get back on track.............one day;)0 -
