  • Anglo-Irish are due to announce their full year results to September 08 next week December 3rd.

I have noticed short positions on shares with increasing frequency led by Lansdowne.

    Any thoughts ?

One thing any Brit using a non-UK bank should bear in mind is that if push came to shove the interests non-nationals of that country in the eyes of its government will always come second to nationals of the country who have a vote. This point was made back in April concerning Icelandic banks and proved correct.

It's just something else to be taken onboard when doing the risk/return calculation and for the investor to decide.

P.S. By any definition Eire is an independent foreign country and probably very insulting to any Irishman to suggest otherwise. The Republic of Ireland is a sovereign state, its citizens describe themselves as Irish, not British, and would regard anyone describing them as British guilty of gross ignorance.

Politically The Republic of Eire is of course an indepedent state and my goodness how they were persecuted and had to fight for that independence !
Nevertheless the fact remains the Irish are not foreigners and are truly British descended from the Celts, the orginal inhabitants of the British Isles ! Most of the readers here are Germanic and descended from the Anglo Saxon and Viking marauders .
Ethnically, the Irish are more 'British' than the current Brits and indeed
every Irish citizen HAS THE SAME RIGHT TO VOTE IN THE UK as we have.

Unless they don't actually live in the UK.

The same right applies to all EU citizens.
  • The Irish banking system serves as a City of London offshore banking centre.

Leaving aside the six provinces, the rest of the island has crucially never had economic independence from England, either.

De Valera acknowledged that in 1934 and little has changed since then.

This subservience will become obvious when the financier-oligarchy in London decides to crash the Irish banking system, just as it did with the Icelandic banks.

The objective? To eliminate bit-players around the globe and to consolidate its hegemonic grip on international finance.
"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

WRONG ! WRONG ! EU citizens have NO right to vote at pariamentary elections other than our dear above mentioned much beloved Irish brethren !
    See below :

To vote in a UK Parliamentary general election a person must be registered to vote and also:
    • be 18 years of age or over on polling day
    • be resident in the UK
    • be a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland

So why, at the foot of the link you provide, does it say:

"*Although also EU member states, citizens of Cyprus and Malta are eligible to be registered to vote in respect of all elections held in the UK." and on this link:

    http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/elections/voter-registration

    say:

"To vote in an election, you must be on the electoral register. The following people can register:
    • UK citizens
    • qualifying Commonwealth citizens
    • citizens of any EU country resident in the UK
    • certain UK citizens that live or work abroad"
    ?
  • Cyprus and Malta are both Commonwealth and EU members. They vote in Parliamentary elections as commonwealth. Other EU nationals can register to vote, but vote only in local governmnent elections or European Parliament elections.

Though what that has to do with Anglo Irish Bank's interest rate is less clear.
