My surname begins with A, and is a surname I always think if I got pulled out of a hat my name would go straight back in as if someone had to ring they wouldn't want to say it without giggling!! Either that or I think they'll think I'm foreign and not want me to win!!!

Therefore I did a Sun competition and used my OH's surname, partly for that reason and partly as I thought it would be funny if a prize turned up in what would be my married name. A lady from the Sun had rung and left a message saying I'd won which cracked me up, I do wonder if I wouldn't have won if I had been using my real name!!!

I do seem to win lots of little prizes, ones from fabulous magazine etc, I guess those ones get printed off automatically as there are usually lots of winners so they don't even see the names of who won.

ETA: I would use my OH's name more often, but it would be no good in the case of money ones as I'd have to get married in order to cash in the cheque!!! Now there's an idea to get OH to propose!! :D

it is down to luck, pure and simple.

you have to be in it to win it.
    2009 WINS £4404.06 2010 Wins £8812.56 2011 £11444.75

  • I've always wondered the same thing as I've only had a few small wins. This is just my own theory but, as my wins have tended to be for comps with loads of prizes I feel that those in the middle of the alphabet tend to get chosen for comps with only one winner, whilst they will perhaps chose someone from the beginning and end of the alphabet when there is more than one prize.

My surname begins Wool........ It would be great if someone with a W surname could prove me wrong and have a huge list of winnings !!

Tis luck, honestly the time you spend wondering about whether your name is right, whether you should be male or female etc...you'd be better just entering a few more comps. It's essentially a numbers game - if you enter enough you will win, although goodness knows what! But only do it if you enjoy it, otherwise it's really not worth it. :)

    too many comps..not enough time!

Before I was married, I used to win every other week, mostly money but then a girl said to me on my wedding day..."oh you won't be lucky any more now you've changed your surname". I never won for 8 years after that! Been married 10 years now & only started winning things again 2 years ago! :D My surname is quite common & begins with an S (nee w)
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!
  • doy ou really think surnames have something to do with it?. Not sure .... I've won a few comps now but I think its just plain luck. :)

My surname starts with wood..... and since I started in feb I think I have been pretty darn lucky, so I don't think a persons surname makes much difference. I think it is down to how many comps you enter and pure luck :D
