problems with resident shield alerts on laptop

hi, I am trying to help a work colleague fix her laptop. It has, just this week begun to display error messages. Resident shield alerts such as system alert:trojan-spy.win32 and cmd pop ups.

So far I have installed and run spybot search and destroy, which came up with many errors which I have told it to fix. however, this has not fixed the problems listed above.

My collegue recently bought AVG for £40 and installed it onto the laptop and it states it is running correctly.

I have downloaded and run hijackthis and have a log file, if this is necessary?

Please could anyone help? I'm unsure what to try next!

kind regards

I can't believe someone paid for AVG. Install a trial of ESET NOD32 or Kaspersky. Your colleague has paid MORE than the two aforementioned which are the market leaders for something with half the performance.

Thanks for that, I'm fully aware of this, she unfortunately had already bought the AVG before she spoke to me. It's apity but not everyone is aware that they can obtain good anti-virus software for free and when a person is panicing, i'm afraid they plump for the nearest, best looking thing...

Thanks Junior, I did as you said and that has cleared the majority as far as I can see. The teacher in question neede to leave before i could do much else but she's going to try the laptop at home tonight then let me know of any further problems tomorrow...
  • I'd also download, update and run a full scan of SuperAntiSpyware from http://www.superantispyware.com/
