I thought that calls to TalkTalk Customer Services were free if you are a customer? I believe if you settle your bill by Direct Debit then there is no additional cost and therefore no need to phone them to pay.

TalkTalk.....free????? Not exactly words you often hear in the same sentence!!!!:eek: Certainly not when I've phoned them ever!!! And I was a customer for years - Tiscali, then TalkTalk when bought out. Nothing was ever free, I can assure you......and some people prefer NOT to pay by direct debit, you shouldn't be forced to do so if you don't want to allow someone to go fishing in your bank account and then take forever to "rectify" the "mistake". The DD "guarantee" isn't worth the paper its written on as there are so many arguments used by companies when a "mistake" is made and the banks can be notoriously slow to sort it out.

I don't watch it normally but I watched it tonight: X-Factor I see TalkTalk sponsor it, all that money people are paying for cancellation fees and large bills, think about poor Simon Cowell.
  • Oh how I wish I'd seen this thread a month ago.

I've set my elderly parents up with a TT account which promised 'free' connection. They have just received their first bill and there is a £29.99 connection charge on it.

The agony of dealing with these people on the phone is unbearable, one says just to pay it this month and they will credit the account next month, the other says that there is no note saying free connection was ever offered on the account.......... I lost it at that point, he was calling me a liar.

I told him just to cancel the account and I was put through to Cancelation John in Kilkenny... ah the charm of the Irish, he said he absolutely believed me and would sort it right there and then, he read me out the new figure which will be taken from my Mum's bank on 6th Dec. I am worried sick now that he was just telling me what I wanted to hear and my Mum ends up with bank charges as there isn't enough in her account to cover the extra.

My parents are really worked up about the whole thing and I feel so guilty. How do these people sleep at night, I haven't.

    As always, IISTGTBT, IUI.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I have tried to cancel my account and despite calls to customer services and mails i have been told my account is still live despite i am no longer with TT.

Even your own letter to me from Nigel Pearson, Senior Director, TT Customer Services dated 23/11/10 advising me that you have received notification from Virgin Media that i am transferring my phone services you can see you have been duly notified more than once.

In your own letter it even states when i cancel one talk talk service this automatically terminates my Talk account! As of 27/11/10 i moved over to the new service provider. How can my line be still active if my telephone number has moved to Virgin?

Finally, how can you say my request for cancelling your service is not genuine when i am using a secure email service from yourselves and that i need to provide further confirmation of who i am? So you are saying basically talk account mail communication is not safe with you now?

My line rental has been paid upto 30th November and the only charges i should receive in a final billing is call charges upto December(if any made). No termination charges as not under contract. Your billing Dept. refuses to let me pay off any call charges until you cancel my account.

I am annoyed you are making a relatively simple cancellation exercise into a big issue. Maybe now you can understand why i have left your company - your customer services is appalling and secondly your internet service.

The chances of getting a reply to that on this forum are zero (TT reps NEVER engage in exchanges which are viewable by others).

sigh aw well at least another complaint added to TT on this Forum!
  • as Victor Meldrew once said "I cannot believe it" my problem is this is now my account and I never even had a contract with TT.
on the 20th September I wrote a letter to the Bereavement team at TT advising I was the administrator of an estate asking that all further correspondence be sent to me also giving the dd details of the executor account.
I now find out they put the contract in my name and because I now wish to cancel the account they feel they have the right to charge cancellation charges.
Cannot set up an account on TT members forum because the tenants (moving in 1/12/2010) have requested that TT relinquish the line to BT and the account will be closed from the 9/12/2010 leaving the me personally responsible for all calls and line rental from 1/12/2010 to 9/12/2010.
Needless to say TT call centre are unable to answer the issues nor are they capable of calling back.
  • For all of you who are being so disgustingly treated by the dregs that inhabit TalkTalk -STOP WASTING YOUR TIME TAKING TO THEM!!!!! The calls are EXPENSIVE, FRUSTRATING AND WILL NOT GET ANY RESOLUTION TO YOUR PROBLEM!!
WRITE to their Customer Complaints, send it Recorded Mail, escalate the process to Otelo within the prescribed period, and also email Watchdog (check the address on their website) as well as TalkTalks MD (email address somewhere in one of these threads)

PLEASE do yourselves a favour and DON'T WASTE YOUR LIFE by speaking to these idiots or trying to get things resolved via their stupid forum - writing to them is the only way, and then make sure its all sent recorded and you keep a note of the dates etc so you can escalate the process and get OTELO to make a finding against them. Also use Watchdog (they are monitoring the TalkTalk disaster) and email the talktalk MD.

I agree with you NeverEnough, I never got anywhere with the phonecalls I made and was usually left feeling incredibly frustrated. However if anyone does decide to brave the phone try getting an alternative number on 'say no to 0870' - there are a few UK landline numbers that will put you through to the same phone menus for a much lesser price.
