Is an IVA the right thing to do??

Hi, I need some advice.
I have alot of personal debt £26k (some of which wasn't even for me, but has my name on it!) plus a mortgage with Northern Rock which I took out with my partner last November which with that came a £10k unsecured personal loan to help over the amount needed (we had no deposit to help)
Anyway things have not got any better - my work have cut down my hours, I have not been able to find anything that fits in around it or a full-time joib that isn't paying peanuts.
My partner as lovely as he is is burying his head in the sand (he has debt if £12,000) - but he won't help me.
I really don't know what to do? I have seen loads of ad's for IVA's ... I don't want to loose my home, but I can't carry on like this. At the moment we have outgoings of £2,500 and an income of just that - yeah its brill money, but debt that I got 8 years ago, is now bitting my bum and I just don't know where to turn. I have no life, I am scared, I am in tears all the time and I just can't believe how flipping stupid, neive and flippant I have been - I am so angry with myself.
