Been asked by my parent's today "Is it possible to stop anyone making a call from a home landline to any mobile?"
Think my brother has been phoning a few of his mates from the house phone to their mobiles and parents want a stop to this!!
Any suggestions would be much apreciated

Yes your landline supplier can supply you with call barring which can be used to bar calls to mobiles.Their will be a monthly charge raised for this service.PF.0

Thanks for that.
Isnt there any way to get round this without having to pay a monthly fee? Im sure I've heard you can do this free somehow?
Thanks0 -
You may be confusing this with barring calls to premium numbers, which some providers do for free to stop rogue dialling issues etc etc. However as far as i am aware if you want to bar calls to mobiles its a chargeable service from a landline.
BT charge £1.75p a month see https://www.bt.com/SelectServices/index.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0618353899.1136389731@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccciaddgjgjdfhkcflgcefkdffndfkm.0&BV_SessionID=@@@@0618353899.1136389731@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccciaddgjgjdfhkcflgcefkdffndfkm.0&showsub3=SS_popular_features&subProduct=SS_Call_Barring&showsub4=SS_call_baringPF.0 -
BT do not offer a call bar service specifically for mobile numbers. However there are several Carrier Pre Select providers out there that would be able to offer you this service along with lower call rates.
e.g. first:telecom offer mobile, PRS, International (combinations there within) call barring for no monthly fee.
You would have to register with them which takes about 2 weeks.0 -

Bt,s service also allows to bar other numbers as well as mobiles yes,but all you have do is to you enter a pin number and you can override it if you want to call a mobile.Where as First Telecom just bar you from ringing all mobiles completely, which is inflexible. You can also override a CPS suppliers barring by dialing 1280 an putting call through Bt.
Only suppliers who offer line rental offer true flexible call barring and as far as i know they all charge for this feature.PF.0 -
With BT you have 6 barring options -
- Bar almost all calls – cancelling this option also cancels any other options you’ve barred
- Bar national and international calls and calls to mobiles
- Bar international calls
- Bar all operator calls, BT Text (SMS text messages) and BT Text Direct 18001 & 18002.
- Bar calls to numbers with * or a # in them (includes some Calling Features, but allows you to cancel this option)
- Bar calls to Premium Rate numbers.
As you can see, if you bar mobile then you are also barring national and international and you are charged monthly for the privilege.
There are many alternative carriers that bar mobile only call types, which I think is what is being asked for here.0 -
Thanks i am well aware what the BT Exchange Based Call Barring Service is capable of. My point was the BT and other landline service providers true calling bar service is more flexible, and can be overidden easily if you need to make a call to a mobile or national or intl number.Yes it comes at a price.
Whilst the service you mention is free, its inflexible and bars mobile calls full stop ,its also easy to override by dialling 1280.
It all depend on whether the Op parents wants the flexibilty i guess.
Out of interest do you know of any other line rental suppliers that offer free mobile barring, with an override code so you can use it easily if you choose to.PF.0 -
1280 is an issue however so is dialling 00447xxxxxx on any standalone call barring option. There is no such thing as totally flexible barring options unless you are connecting through a router (even this isn't totally flexible as it can be bypassed).0

I doubt if you will find free call barring on a line rental basis, as the alternate line provider has to apply the barring at both the exchange (which they are charged monthly for by BT Wholesale) and alternate network levels.
Most CPS providers will give you free call barring if you ask nicely (make it a condition of registration) as this is usually a relatively straight forward data fill change on their network switches and they usually incur a nominal one off charge rather than a recurring monthly charge.0
