Can someone help me with a digital camera dilema thanks

Sony cybershot W130 digital camera 8.1mp 4x optical zoom
vs
Fujifilm finepix Z20fd digital camera 10mp 3 x optical zoom

As most people on here seem to be much more up with latest technology than me I wondered if people could give me their thoughts as to which of the following 2 cameras is best for an everyday photographer. Many thanks.
Sony cybershot W130 digital camera 8.1mp 4x optical zoom
vs
Fujifilm finepix Z20fd digital camera 10mp 3 x optical zoom

I was wondering if anyone out there owns one (or both of these) I wanted to get some feedback on which may be best for quality, battery life etc, I really want to get either of these as they are within my budget and I have to buy from amazon as I have a £50 gift voucher, I don't really want to put more than another £40 towards it so thought either of these sounded ideal. Help please thanks.

Have a hunt around sites like trustedreviews.com and dpreview.com as previous poster has suggested

As they are compacts do NOT fall into the trap of thinking more mega pixels means better quality, on a compact this is NOT true. The thing with compacts is the size of the sensor they ahve to collect the picture data. They tend to be small in comaprrision with a full blown SLR. And the more information you try to stuff into a small space......well you get the picture

They are both good makes, so thats not a factor. Try and find out what make the lenses are as this will be a major factor in the quality of the picture. It would be best if you could go to a shop and try them, but I would feel guilty going to Jessops with the intention of trying but not getting from them

I have not used either of these, so I can not give a specific opinion, but I would suspect either would be a fine choice

Out of those two, I'd easily buy the Fujifilm over the Sony anyday. I already have a Fujifilm 5.1mp camera, and I love it.

Personally, I detest the Sony brand - over priced and over hyped rubbish. Like I was told when working in a high street retailer: "Sony?...Here today, gone tomorrow!" - look at their minidisc, for example. ;)

If you cannot decide based on any other factor, SD memory is much cheaper to buy than Memory Sticks (ie 8GB: SD ~ £12, Memory Stick ~ £30) and is more versatile (can be shared amongst many other devices) too. The Fuji uses SD and the Sony, Memory Sticks.

A group test here which features the z20fd and Sony (W120 not W130):

    Maybe gives some other options?

Are the preset filters any good? I've got a Panasonic Lumix DMC LS2 and constantly having to adjust for light, especially as simple mode no longer works, is a nightmare so I'm looking to purchase a new camera in the sales.

I'd be lying if I said I knew - 49 times out 50, the photos I take in Auto mode are fine for me. :o:D:beer:

  • I Don't have any of these camera's, but I do have 2 Fuji's. Great camera's & as Fifer said it is cheaper for the SD memory than the Sony memory stick.
