Career Change to the RAF

Options
HI,

Sorry this maybe the wrong place to post it but thought I would try.

I have just turned 27, I applied for NCO aircrew when i was 21 and 22 passed the aptitude tests at cranwell but was asked to come back in 12 months, so basicly went away to get life experience.

I have a good job, but not what I want to do I still want a Aircrew role in the RAF so ahve decided to apply.

Questions :-

1)Am I to old? I know by the book I'm not but is there any dis-advantages from joining later in life.

2) My other half said that she will support my change in career but never saw military life as somehting she wanted.. I.e me being away and moving around. Any advice/ Experiences.

Any help much appreciated.

  • Hi moneyspender, your not too old to apply for aircrew, i think its up to 30 for the upper age.
Also if your other half is not fully behind you, you will find it hard to do the training, as you will always be thinking about them and also if you do make it all the way into the RAF then it will be hard for her to adjust if she doesnt want it, which will put pressure on your relationship and also your working life. I know that aircrew spend a lot of time away, up to 9 months a year away either on detachment or exercise in this country or another.

If ypou could get your other half to support you and be positive about it then this could be a great career change for you.

Hope it works out for you both.
