Thanks again to all the replies!
    Glad that we could help.

From what you said, it sounds like you did the right thing. If you ever have to complain about being overcharged in that shop, they should be ready to beleive you now.

I hope you now have a nice warm smug feeling.

However on the otherside of the coin, I have taken a mobile phone that I found on the ground to the police station (did I get any thanks? Nooooo - the police officer was actually pretty shocked that I had handed it in). I was once in queue for the cash machine and the bloke infront me walked off without taking the money. I could have had that and legged it...but I called him back. He just said 'oh!'. But my Mum told me what a good girl I was - LOL. And in December, i was walking down Oxford Street (crazy, I know) and we walked past a cash machine, which was reading do you want more time? <press button> do you want to cancel and return the card? <press button> I thought the screen was frozen and it had broken down. So I pressed the cancel button to see if it was broke and out popped the card! I was totally shocked and took it out. I tried to take it into the bank but they'd just shut, so we posted it through the letter box. I can do all this - but the *sshole that found my Mum's purse when she lost it, took all the money out first, before someone handed it in.

I've not had any rewards for my 'angelic' behaviour, but I doubt that will stop me in future. I weigh up each situation as it comes.

    Sorry for the long one...

    Hi,

I was in Morrisons and a young man, whom had purchased some groceries, pulled out his wallet and paid for his goods. When he was closing his wallet up a £20 note drifted out of it and onto the counter. He then walked away. The lady on the till shouted to him but he was wearing an I-pod thingy and obviously had it on loud because he didn't come back. So another customer ran after him. Did he thank anyone? No. He picked up the note and walked away without even a thank you. Ungrateful wretch. When a lady handed in a purse that belonged to my mother I was sent to this ladies house with a thank you letter and a bouquet of flowers as my mother was so grateful for its return. Then again she never had a lot of money and was grateful that we could now eat for the rest of the week.

the trade warehouse where i work takes any shortfall in the till out of our wages so i would definitely own up. i would not be able to go into that shop again if not, would feel far too guilty!

I once booked a flight while in Jamaica for a friend of mine, instead of paying £470 they charged £4.70. The airline did write to me asking me for the money, never replied. AND I travelled using them since...Guess I'm a crook.....
  • Went to the hairdresser about a month ago after my hols to France and got my usual haircut - £6.80 (ok, it's a basic cut and style, more like a bob  )...

Anyhow, was at the checkout when paying and a lump of my hair fell into the till drawer as I was scrabbling in my pocket for the correct coins and the previous customer was being served. The chashier and I had a chuckle then the next thing you know the till doesn't open when my transaction is rung-though.

Yep - it's stuck...well, the staff aren't allowed coins in their pockets when in the store and a big queue was forming so I said I would leave my money on the counter. Trouble is I accidentally put 6 euro coins on the side near the counter instead of £1 coins and 80p (foreign mixup)

Nobody mentioned it when I next went, I didn't feel too guilty as they had stolen some of my hair quite clearly!

However I was just wondering if all those people who said they would keep quiet if it was a large store/outlet also browse/subscribe to the tesco misprices board:rolleyes: Seems same thing to me, and yes i do browse the tesco board

What an interesting thread, thought I'd add my couple of experiences.

I was in the queue for the cash machine at my bank once when the guy in front of me walked away so I stepped in his place. The machine started bleeping at me asking if I wanted more time. I pressed no and the card was given to me. I asked hubby where the guy went who was in front of me and followed him into a shop. I asked him if he had just been to the cash machine and he looked at me gone out. I said that I thought he had left his card in the machine and would he mind telling me his name as I didn't want to give him a card that wasn't his. He told me his name and I confirmed it was the one on the card. He thanked me profusely and was very surprised that I'd given him it back. I felt real good for the rest of the day.

    Then awhile later this happened.....

Hubby bought me an electric toothbrush a couple of years ago as I'd wanted one for ages, lucky for him it was half price. It was £39.99 down from £79.99. It only lasted a couple of months before it just died on me. I got a replacement but that too died on me so I took it back for a refund. I only expected the £39.99 to go back on the CC but when I got home I realised that they had given me the original price of £79.99 back. I didn't go back and tell them I just enjoyed the money.

I see the toothbrush refund as payment for giving the guy his card back :D
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

If I was personally undercharged I would def go back to the shop as soon as possible and pay them the difference. What goes round comes round. We all have God to answer to one day. Im sure it wont make you rich or them poor, but at least your conscience would be clear (and you cant put a price on that).

Twice i have been at a cash machine and someone has left the card in. Twice i ould have emptied their accounts. Twice i handed them in with my name and address, twice not even a thankyou. I am never sure whether to think of good and bad karma in that sort of situation or that everything happens for a reason and i should of emptied their accounts. I have never had good fortune from handing anything in though.
