Corsair’s line of 4GB memory kits are designed for PCs featuring 64-bit operating systems. Please note: Installing 4GB onto PCs with 32-bit operating systems is not advised since 32-bit operating systems do not support 4GB of system memory.
is this true?
thanks.

I must admit im not that well up on this. But my 32bit Vista has 4 gig installed with no problems whatsoever.:idea:0

You can have 4 gig installed, but the OS may not recognise it all. I have Vista 32 bit and although it shows 4 gig of ram in Control Panel -> System, I believe it uses 3.25 only? - I read about it ages ago, I stand to be corrected about the using 3.25 bit only!!My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0

Found the following
"If a PC is installed with 4GB of system memory, the computer itself will register 4GB but Windows Vista/XP will not be able to recognize it all. It's nothing to fret over, this is a normal limitation with 32 bit operating systems. The operating system will report 3.5GB or so, but the "missing memory" (varies between 500MB-750MB) is there, reserved for hardware devices. "My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0 -
The missing memory is mostly used by your Graphics card. A 32 bit OS can only address 4Gb of memory. I have 4b in my machine and a 512Mb Graphics card, so it only reports 3581Mb od system memory, the slight discrepancy is just bits of memory being reserved by the OS. In theory a 64 bit OS could address 17.2 billion gigabytes of memor but in practice the Operating Systems are limited to far less. Vista 64 bit can address 8Gb to 128Gb depending on the edition. It's my problem, it's my problem

thanks for that, it is interesting what other pc'ers think, my laptop came with 2gbs installed but with a 32-bit vista ultimate so it wont do readyboost, but my SIL's which came with 1gb installed will accept a 1gb usb dongle as readyboost, so it is very interesting, I am currently building a system for my son for christmas, I have just ordered him a AMD Phenom triple core X3 processor the cheapest I found it was at ebuyer for £76. so not bad really, I have just got 2gbs of ram at the moment as although I have a copy of vista to put on its only a 32-bit so I will wait til after the new year and see if I can pick up a 64-bit and then add some more memory,
has anyone else noticed the price of Vista is off up again, its £60 for 32-bit Vista Home Premium anymore.
