Its in the terms and conditions
    Here’s what to do next
Send your completed application form, together with your
    identification to:
    Abbey, Account Openings,
    PO Box 1109, Bradford BD1 5ZJ
Don’t forget to open an account you will need
identification. Details of acceptable types of ID
are available in branch, by calling 0800 032 4600
    or visiting https://www.abbey.com.
  • sorry mate, didn't bother read those
  • And then,
they send you a letter and you have to visit a branch to collect your passbook, unbelievable, but true.

Passbooks have a secure signature in them, so they can only be issued in branch as you need to sign them there. You may as well just go to a branch to open the account though, then it gets done straight away.

The account can be opened and money paid in by Standing Order without the issue of a passbook. It is also likely (from previous experience) that you can phone up Abbey and ask for the maturity balance to be transferred to another Abbey account (e.g. current account or e saver) - all without the issue of a passbook.
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam
  • can you have online banking with this account?
