I can't change my number as it's a business line also so it would be a nightmare for me what with ads, stationary, vehicle signage etc.

What is "choose to refuse" and how effective is it?

We would love to get rid of the International Calls, but my elderly parents live overseas, so we can't as it would block them from calling as well (they struggle using a cash card, so getting them to use internet etc is a little too hard to be honest).

Very annoying indeed, but nothing can be done it would appear!
Do not feed the trolls please.

Hi we get them too although infrequently. what annoys me is that our number is meant to be a new ex dir number and we certainly have not given it to anyone and yet we still get these calls!

Is this BT stuffing up by giving our new supposedly ex directory number out when they shouldn't have?

Nobody's giving out or sharing your number - most such calls originate from computers which are either randomly or sequentially dialling.

The fact that you are XD just means your number does not appear in the phone book and, unless you've agreed, is not divulged by DQ services.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Is anyone else getting incoming international phone calls every day? I am only getting 4 or 5 a day so far between 11am and 9pm so at least it's not waking me at night, but I'm at home all day just now and it's starting to drive me completely crazy. When I answer them there's no-one there, so I can't even tell them what I think of them!

I have only phoned BT three times (so far) and each time whoever I speak to is amazed that I want to ban international incoming calls . They obviously haven't had enough people with this problem for them to have done anything about it. The upshot so far is that they are not currently able to block international incoming calls. The latest guy tonight suggested I try "Choose to refuse" free for a month, but we've already had 2 international calls and it doesn't work.

If they can block witheld numbers and individual numbers surely they can ban international numbers. They just haven't done the IT work yet.

    PLEASE JOIN THE CAMPAIGN!! :j
If you want to help everyone with this problem and it is happening to you, please phone BT, NTL or whoever to ask them to block international incoming calls. If enough of us phone asking for this surely they will eventually have to listen and set up a service for this.

Tally so far: I have phoned 3 times

If I was to block all incoming international calls then I'd be blocking over 95% of the people who call me, as almost all friends and family use low-cost carriers so even though the are in the UK, even in the same town their calls can often come up as international.

I don't think you'll get many people wanting to block their own friends and family calling them.

...and how do you think being xDQ prevents someone randomly or sequentially dialling a number, I could for example simply dial random numbers and come across yours.

My number is xDQ but that doesn't somehow stop your hands from working when you go to dial my number.

If you wait a bit longer someone will appear on the other end, they told me I won a holiday, I told them I don't want it and to stop calling me but they still do, I can't just not answer international calls or choose to refuse because my dad lives in Spain and it might be him calling

I can't ignore international calls either as it could be friends and family in the UK calling using cheap calls providers.

thanks for the  reply. I do not know that they are dialling randomly or sequentially. and since I now know that they dial randomly or sequentially then obviously I do not expect my being ex directory to prevent this.

thank you ever ever ever so much

I am being plagued by phone calls from a company called "Global Marketing" they call at least once a day, often three times or more.

I am registered with the Telephone Preference Service, which I have told them, but it makes no difference, they just keep calling!

I think that they are phoning from India, as all the callers have Indian accents and the line quality is poor, as if from far away.

When I do 1471 it says "We do not have the callers number".

I have tried politely asking them not to call, to no avail.

I have a new baby and they always ring when I am busy, and I always think that it is someone I want to talk to and I get furious when I answer and find that it is Global Marketing yet again.

They keep asking for me by name and the company have obviously got our name and number from the phone book. DH refuses to go ex-directory.

I have phoned my phone company talk talk, but they could only offer to block anonymous calls for £3.80 per month, which I don't want to pay.

Maybe it would be cheaper to get caller ID?

Is anyone else suffering from calls from this company? If so, how did you manage to successfully stop them?

I am at the end of my tether with them!
