My old PC ( 4 years old) won't run the Sims 2 game because it can't find any directx adapters ??. I have downloaded the latest directx. But when i come to install it, i have to tell it where to put the extracted files, and it is this that i don't know. Could someone put me out of my misery, as my daughter is giving me grief that she can't play her new game, thanks..
Update I should of mentioned that having checked my system at 'dxdiag',it says that Directx 9.0c is installed, and i have run the test checks and the only thing wrong is the display driver, and it says to update from the manufacturer, which manufacturer does it mean, how do i do this, where do i go to get this, any help please.

Try this first off, Right Click the desktop, Properties, Settings Tab, then
drop the Colour Quality to 16bit.. It may work..0 -
I've been looking into buying a budget graphics card - some say they support DirectX 8.1 and some 9.0. I have no idea if the older ones can be upgraded, and this is probably your issue at the moment.0

@Dunkyboy
You can find out about your graphics system under the display tab when running dxdiag. You also get the current drivers and their date in the other panel on this page. Post what you find out.

The MSE site is very slow after you sign in. It only works for IE. and not firefox 1.5 .It is very fast if not logged in.
@Dunkyboy the SiS 650 is an integrated graphics processor. It exists on the motherboard inside a 'Northbridge' chip that does many other vital things. Integrated graphic processors (IGP) tend to share memory with the main processor. You might get better graphics performance at the expense of reduced system memory. This may result in a slower overall system if the memory available is small. You switch memory to the graphics processor in the bios menu. The game needs 32Mb minimum of graphics memory. I did find the latest graphics drivers here at http://www.sis.com/ follow the download link for the IGP drivers for the popular SiS 650.
This game has caused so much trouble as it appeals to a very wide audience including those who don't have the latest hardware.

PS I can't get the link to work if you type it in manually it gets to the SiS site.0 -
If you can't find a compatible video driver, you will have to uninstall directx (which is not easy), and install an earlier version e.g. 7 (if Sims supports it)
When Microsoft kindly upgraded from 7 to 8, they broke my directx, and there is no compatible update for my card, and no easy way to go back - Don't play games much anyway, so I've never bothered trying to fix it
This may help in uninstalling directx, but I haven't tried it.. [url]
