Can someone help with a roofing issue please?
The house I am buying has some roof spread which neither builder nor surveyor sees as a major problem, it is quite easily solved.
However at the back of the roof [slate substitute tiled] there is a large velux window and the roof bows in somewhat where it has been put in [DIY job I suspect].
The roof does not leak and the ridge tiles are sound.
One builder wants to take the tiles off and realign [or replace] the timbers, attend to the roof spread easier, and replace tiles.
The surveyor thinks the roof timbers are strong and the window supported enough.
Is the builder just attending to the cosmetic appearance, being a good builder, or trying to get more money out of me?!
I'm not bothered if the velux stays, is replaced by a smaller one or it is removed and the area tiled over.
Thanks in advance for your help - appreciated.

sorry I can't show any pictures.
The builder has now been inside the property and still isn't happy, saying the damage has been done to the timbers, cant guarantee roof spread will be stopped by tieing timbers to wall plate - and that the roof has been weakened. I am not happy either and am putting in a new lower offer for the property.
Would still appreciate any advice though - thanks.0
