Ocean Diamond Auctions

Sorry if this has been discussed before but there is a auction at the weekend locally promising bargains in jewellery (designed to be sold onboard the Queen Mary 2), TVs, watches, original paintings etc. Has anyone been to one of these auctions and if so, are there bargains to be had?
Cheers

  • I've just come back from one, there is bargains there, IF you know what you are buying and have done your research before you bid. A prime example was a 42" HD TV, which i was looking at. In the end it 3 of them went for £600 each + Vat + 10% buyers fee, so really your paying £750 where the exact same one can be picked up for £450 down the high street/online. obviously people thought that because its at a auction its cheap.

As for watches they where going for £100-£200 each (+25%), The brands that i seen were Belmar Geneve not a brand that i have heard of myself. The auctioneer seemed obsessed with mentioning World of Watches Bond Street, which we were being lead to believe would be on Bond Street London, upon google'ing it, it comes back as addresses in peterbough and southend.

Another thing is all this art from The Rasein Art Gallery Paris, Looking it up on google i cant find anything that such gallery exists other that adverts to other auctions

There was certianly something dodgy about the auction.
  • I've been on the QM2, and at the time they didn't sell diamonds..just gold-by-the-inch, and a specialist Pearl shop...
    Debt-free...and staying that way...
  • Do not go to these auctions they are scams. We went and although I am very cynical they are very clever at drawing you in. The items they are selling are not worth what they say they are worth. Do not buy any bags or Belmar watches. Soon after the auction and after buying several items we hoped to sell on, we realised the problem and there was no way to contact them and we thought how can these people get away with this but there must be some legal loophole. I would like to see them shut down and if more people complain then hopefully this will happen. We had the watches valued that they claimed were worth thousands and the valuer said the watches were not worth anything near what they said.
  • They are scammers. They were featured on Watchdog, BBC1, 13th May 2010
