We have checked our online banking this afternoon and noticed this on our statement.
Have Barclays been very cheeky taking this "commission" out instead of calling it a Reserve fee ?
Usually a Reserve fee payment looks like this
I was going to go all guns blazing into the bank but OH said to check on here first so we had a better idea of what to ask and say.
What is the Debit COMMISSION for ?25/11/2008 Card Purchase -£29.20 -£412.14
25/11/2008 Card Purchase -£98.00 -£510.14
26/11/2008 Counter Credit £100.00 -£410.14
26/11/2008 Debit -£22.00 -£432.14
COMMISSION
26/11/2008 Card Purchase -£8.12 -£440.26

For £22, yes, it will be a reserve fee.
I don't know why you think that's cheeky for it to be labeled that way - it's still the same fee, and you should still receive your letter etc. What would William Shatner do?0 -
For a start, it is labelled as "commission" instead of "reserve fee". This leads me to wonder when this change in labelling was brought about and WHY I havent been notified that the change in labelling was going to happen.
Secondly, it has been taken out of my account the day after I went over my overdraft limit AND the same day that money went into my account to bring it back within limits.
Despite what you say, I am still debating questioning it at my local branch.0 -

Yes. As annoying as it is, the narrative used on the statement will occasionally show up as "commission" instead of the charge name. It used to happen with paid referral fees, too.
And why would you be notified about the change in narrative? It's not covered by the terms and conditions. There is no obligation to tell you.Secondly, it has been taken out of my account the day after I went over my overdraft limit AND the same day that money went into my account to bring it back within limits.
Yes. Charges are based on your balance at the end of the day. As you were overdrawn at the end of one business day, the charge was incurred. Returning your account to within it's limit the following day does not stop this.
