Didn't know where to put this, feel free to move it if necessary
We're having a bad week, our old DVD/VHS player has stopped working, and then my office shredder has packed up (after about 9 years of hard service).
Now I'm planning to cart them off to the tip, but is there a better place? Both have a fair amount of high grade plastic, the DVD player must have a chip or 2, and I guess either could be repairable by someone with the time/skill to devote to it.
So, any ideas?

I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

http://www.freecycle.org ?Freecycle groups match people who have things they want to get rid of with people who can use them, and so keeping usable items out of landfills.0

I assumed freecycle was for things which still work, rather than dead stuff.
Who will want dead stuff??

thanks anyway. I always look on freecycle as a kind of jumble sale, okay for stuff thats tired, or that I'm tired with, but it still has to function.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0

Most tips (in my area at least) now have separate areas for scrap metal and domestic appliances, plus a separate "cage" for computers and TVs.
I ~think~ the local authorities are obliged to get that stuff recycled now, though it probably means that it gets shipped to some third world country to be processed by child labour...0 -
I think www.midex-rt.com recycle these for free? Def. not shipped off, chopped up on site etc etc0

Why not just stick em in the wheelie bin along with the other trash.
Amazing what you can fit into a wheelie bin, I once got shut of a VW Beetle engine that way.0 -
Not sure it's legal to throw this WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) in the bin nowadays...0

Thanks for this one, it seems to mainly concern computers and so forth, and is aimed at businesses. This contact will come in useful for my clients when they ask me how to dispose of their old PCs and the like. I'll contact them, don't fancy paying carriage on the stuff tho' from Nottingham to aldershot.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum.
