Sealing Unfinished Oak Table

I'm after some advice. I recently bought an unfinished oak dining table. I'd like to seal it one way or another and am aware of a few different methods but am advised waxing is the best solution.
Can someone offer any advice on waxing. The different waxes available, different methods of waxing etc etc....
TIA
