Getting money back

I paid for a new kitchen from MFI about a month ago using my credit card. It looks like MFI are about to call in the receivers.

Anyone know how long it would take to get my money back from the credit card company?

Timings could vary, read this article:

  • Thanks.

Keeping an eye on the news web feeds to see if MFI announce their calling in the receivers.
  • Hi

Done the same thing here. Put down £1800 dep using debit card! Went into mfi today and they have said that they are not going under no matter what the papers say. (mind you i'm sure head office is not going to tell the shop floor until they come to lock the doors)

Just incase, what i did do was to credit the payment back to debit card and put deposit on Visa.

That sounds like a very good idea given the uncertainty with them at the moment.

Now correct me if i'm wrong, but it does look like they are going under and according to Section 75, not only will i get my deposit back but the full price of the kitchen? Can someone put me straight on this? If it's true, what a great way to make money.
  • you wouldnt get more than you have paid....

ok - if you pay £10 on card and £90 cash - you will get £100 back from the card.... see below for the longer explanation

  • The law’s very specific, you get the protection for the whole thing even if you only pay for a part of it on the card, provided what you pay for costs more than £100 (and less than £30,000).
Here’s a quick example of how it works…
Savvy Salma spots the high tech TV she’s been planning to buy at half price for £500 including delivery in a high street sale. Yet she’s only got £10 left on her card limit (don’t worry, it’s a cashback card, she’s going to pay it off in full).
Salma pays £10 of the cost on her credit card and the rest on her debit card. Sadly the next day the store goes bust, before her telly is delivered. Yet she can claim the WHOLE £500 back from the credit card company, because she paid in part on the card.
    Therefore if you want protection…
