Complaining to banks.

does anyone have any experience of complaining to banks?
I closed my a/c with the Alliance and Leicester on 30 October.
Due to their typing error, they transferred my money to the wrong a/c at the Halifax; an invalid a/c which didn't exist. The money bounced back to them.
I've phoned numerous times, had numerous convos, but they still haven't returned it. Usually what happens is, they promise to get back and don't bother.
Is it time now to give up, and try the Ombudsman?

Follow the complaints procedure on their web site.
When you feel that is not going to resolve it, demand a "letter of deadlock" togehter with details of how to escalate to the Ombudsman.
That costs them the best part of £500, so is an incentive to sort it.
Do not give up!
P.S. Was it your typing error, or theirs?0 -

The FOS understands that mistakes happen and will not penalise for a clerical error unless the bank has not acted correctly in getting it sorted within a reasonable time.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
