i know of a one being made redundant but found a job within a few weeks.

but have heard of quite a few that have had contract rates cut by 10%.

The fact that base rates have dropped by 48% must help at little :T

I take it you are from the North as you know your neighbours.

me neither, but that might be because i live in london and i've never spoken to any of them.

    (Too true! :p )

I don't know anyone in my family/ friends that has been made redundant so far but they are in careers that I don't think would be severely affected by recession. My friend just got a lower paid job in a London company and they had just made two higher paid people redundant though.

We know a few NQ solicitors who had been lead to believe their employment would continue at the end of their training contracts who are now out on their ears- or soon to be. One has left a Magic circle firm and managed to get a NQ job paying less than his TC rate. :( Another has always had business interests outside law and has decided to concentate on them, one of them, ouch, is property speculation.

If you work in conveyancing, IMO the best place to be is in one of those call centre cheap oufits, as thats now where many brokers (brokers account for about 70% of all mortgages arranged) send thier clients now. I for one never use the old fashioned local solicitors anymore, and I think that business model for conveyancing is pretty much a dead end.

Bloody hell, is that legal again?

We don't have many peasants around my way, but we do have a few surf's. Are they fair game too?

Also in Cambridgeshire, and have heard of a spate of redundancies later (husbands of friends, friends etc). Worryingly the jobs that are going are hi-tech, "professional" careers and whereas previously people had no problems finding a new job, now people are hanging around for months with no job...

    it's legal now!!

All of these 90% price drops are making times very hard!!!

Everyone (and I mean everyone) is desperate and has to sell at whatever price they can get as everyone we know has lost their jobs!!

Big Business on the Moors...........although there has certainly been fewer Porsche Cayennes and Range Rover Sports (with low profile tyres that have never been near a field) around this year, so business is slightly less booming, and my 14 yo hasn't been 'required' for beating duty's on some weekends.
