Thanks for everyones kind words
Guess where I have been today, A & e with ds, this was his 7th fall, we think he could also have dyspraxia, which I believe is linked to Aspergers.
I am going to ring up and get the forms tommorow and try now, as at least now I have 2 A & E visits to back up our claim.
thanks again everyone, I will keep you posted0 -
my dd claim sailed through , the form although lengthy and a bit repetative is not that bad, good luck on your claim. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Diagnosis means nothing at all, it's based on care and mobility needs only. Diagnosis is irrelevant.
It doesn't consider extra costs of specific food or food waste so I wouldn't concentrate too much on things like that. Food 'issues' there are a lot of children who are fussy eaters, I know with ASDs it's much more extreme but because DLA decisions are based on care and mobility needs, it really isn't worth dwelling on it on the claim form. Physical side of eating of course is another matter when the child needs physically feeding their food with a spoon/knife/fork
A BIG key is getting professionals involved in putting reports together (what DLA decision makers class as 'factual' reports) to support your claim. 2 A&E reports to say they have had an accident will support he's clumsy if it's just a fall but many children without disabilities have accidents. The best people for reports to come from teachers (as the care needs will be evident in school for personal care) OTs, Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists, GPs, consultants, psychiatrists and psychologists. One day I might be more organised...........

Hi Lilme
Oh no I know that, he is at the paed tommorow for his feet as he has fallen 7 times, so unfortunately it looks like he is not just the average clumsy child, his feet defo bend in. The school have told us to tell them about the Aspergers referral as could be dyspraxia.
He can eat on his own but struggles to hold a knife or fork, he will never be able to go out on his own without help and needs help still with the toilet.
We are up constantly throughout the night and believe me his food issues (for which he is under the hv) are very severe, he has to be weighed at regular intervals.
I am almost sure, no in fact I know, that without help he would struggle. Which does sadden me a great deal.0 -
