Passport shenanigans - wrong birthdate!

Morning all

I had my passport renewed last year before I flew to the USA. Everything was fine, save for when I was on the plane I noticed that they had my birthdate wrong on the passport. I should have checked earlier, but I assumed that everything was alright.

ANYWAY. I have booked my tickets for this year with Virgin and seperate tickets for Universal and Disney, again with Virgin. But they have said the birthdate on the tickets must match my passport (and I forgot to give the 'passport birthdate' rather than my own)!

I was wondering: can you see this causing problems? I've spoken to the passport agency to get it changed and they said turn up on the day and we'll do it for free, so that is what I plan to do.

If anyone has any comments, please do!

  • Of course, I'm just a little wary that they might take ages or take the passport away.

I've got a month though, so you're quite right.

Shall I start a 'I want compensashun' thread now, or later?

NO . what do you want compensation for you have known about the incorrect date in your passport for at least a year and have done nothing , if you were to knowningly travle with this document you would be committing a criminal offence .

If they say they can ammend it in a day then they will but leaving it a month before your holiday is not the passport offices fault but yours !

Im sorry if you think im being harsh or unfair but i really cannot believe you think that its ok to travel with incorrect official documents

  • Christ. A swing and a miss.

I was joking about the compensation.

Ah that's what the winking smilie is for-the benefit of the irony challenged !! :)
I'd just go up early in the day -did they tell you you needed to make an appointment-if you have one you'll likely have less of a wait to hand it in -but you'll still probably have to return later in the day to collect it
(I can't believe you left it nearly a year to correct either though LOL)

I know, I'm a bit lazy like that. Plus, it was the first photograph where I didn't look like a John Prescott impersonater, so I was loathe to change it!

I'll give them a call and arrange an appointment. They've always been excellent in terms of service so no worries there.

Is it really illegal to travel with the incorrect date on my passport? I've been all over this year!

That's good to know - though it means the climb up the hill to the station will come a lot quicker :(!
