Hi I have a new floor lamp, dual control dimmer switch.
It is called mother and child lamp.
A few minutes after it was switched on, smoke started coming from the top lamp.
Can anyone shine any light on this please.
In the meantime I have switched it off.

Take it back without using it again is all I would say, it's not worth risking a fire for !0

I agree. And make sure you observe the wattage ratings for the light fixtures.0

I like your humour:rotfl:
Maybe there is some packing material (ie cardboard) may have got trapped around the 300 watt bulb area???
If you can't see anything obvious then don't switch it on again and return to the store. Let them sort it.0 -

Thank you for your replies.
The smoke does not smell like an electrical burning fault.
I was thinking more along the lines of perhaps the coating inside the lamp, and maybe it needed to burn off.
However not going to take any chances. I will speak with the shop tomorrow.0
