Hello all
I did a silly thing
opened a prem acc and then forget about it
received a letter today saying I owe 88 quid + a fiver for every day ive been overdrawn
had the account 8 months
and they took out a fiver a month for not paying 500 quid in
I know i am stupid just so you know! but has any one got any ideas of how I can get my self out of this mess?
They have said that they have sent letters to me but this is the first I have received!
I might say I sent a letter to close the account and see if that works
or I might say I will pay the 40 quid (8 * 5) for being stupid but no charges
but either way they will prolly not care and spend more money trying to get 100 quid off me and give me a bad credit rating.
Thanks in advanced

I don't know the best way to get around this, although you'd have thought you'd have got some warning before now. I think I would say you haven't received their previous letters and that as a gesture of good will you are happy to include a cheque for £40 (although you need to check whether there's a minimum 12 month contract) and hope that settles it. Be nice about it though, you're more likely to get the result you want.MFW #66 - £4800 target0

thanks for advise
I do not know about the 12 month contract thing0 -
I would have thought the first thing you should do is phone them and see if they'll convert the account to their bog standard current account that does not charge an underfunding fee. You can then negotiate on what you need to do to clear the debt. With the Premier account, you should have received a monthly statement from them as well as any letters they've sent you so it sounds as though a lot of your post has gone astray.0

thats true
never received a statementbut it was only online account
they said they have sent letters since august but I am 100% sure I have not received them.0 -
I had the same problem as you. I ended up with the underfunding-charge + overdrawn fees added up to £180 odd before I sorted it out. They refunded (on the condition the account was closed after) which was OK as I never did get round to switching it to my main account (applied for £50 Quidco)
All I can suggest is being polite to the call centre operator, explain your situation and hope for the best although it did take speaking to a few 'managers' on different occasions to get it sorted out.
Good luck!

Well! I phoned up today and put my best sad voice on
I was polite as possible but the stone cold B I T C H was having none of it
turns out I owe 40 from 21st of october then 5 quid every day 194 as I was 1 pound in credit
They said they can close the accoutn I can setup a pay back thing over 6 months but I would get an R3 or something on my credit file bla bla I didn't wanna do that.
Then they said I can close the account but complain about the charges and I wouldn't have to do anything until this test case had gone through and then something...
I might pay off abit here and their just incase it gets any worse.
Thanks 4 your help all0 -
Hey, I've got the same problem! I closed tha ccount a year ago, and on Saturday I got a letter (dated November 14th?!?) saying I was £125 overdrawn and being charged £5/day. I was outraged, tried calling CS and first they said they couldn't even put me through to an operator as I didn't have my 12 digit customer number (only had the account number printed on the letter). I don't know what to do either. Part of me just wants to pay to get rid fo the mess, but the other part of me doesn't see why I should pay all that money. They say I should send them the closure letter, but I threw it out (it was so long ago!). Can they really do this? I'm planning to go into a branch today to speak to someone, but I'm really disgusted at how much they are charging me...0

I think they must have put some kinda file through the system in October to charge us all and then left it a month before telling us.
I think I have done the best I could and will try and pay some off with the O/T from Christmas but really dodgy tactics by A&L but I never checked the T&C's I can see it now why I don't mess with these things as I am just to forgetful!
Good luck you are gonna need it!0
