Gas Calorific Value
Give the recent press over DD's I have been checking what my current supplier does for me.
I started looking at the Gas content of my Dual Fuel supply.
On comparing bills for different periods I noticed that the Calorific Value used to calculate kWh has increased from 38.8 to 39.1.
Given that the unit rate is applied to the kWh value it is obviously more expensive.
Question is has calarific value suddenly changed nationwide or is it only in Area 10.
Does anone know what drives this?

Calorific value does change as is a compisiton of the quality of the incoming gas supply, in esense how much quality burnable gas is in the supply. Each day this is calculated and issued by the Gas Tranportors in the country to each gas supplier. So it fluctuates daily depending with the quality of the gas stored and comming into the Country, where you are and is usually from CV of 37.5 MJ/m3 to 43.0 MJ/m3.
However the Gas Suppliers do not under regulation have to charge you the correct calorific value for each day, otherwise you could end up with 30 seperate invoices for a month. So they use an average over the days invoiced.
