Thanks for all your advice? How long should they be left before fitting then -they are coming on saturday and am wanting them fitted towards the end of next week - is that reasonable?

That sounds ok, as long as you unwrap them and keep them in the kitchen or other heated room. It will give you time to get a few coats of oil done before fitting!

If the units are in place I would sit the tops where they are to go, if not then lay them flat somewhere warm, supported on some equal sized wooden battens to allow air to circulate.

I don't think the oak ones will shrink as much as our beech ones did.
  • I need help in this subject. I am going round in circles and very stressed about choice of worktop and floor to go with high gloss kitchen doors. Think I want the cream gloss (Howdens) and if so whether to go for laminate dark grey (not shiny) or real wood either iroko or oak!! I have the same dilemma if I go for the white gloss. I currently have 1980s white matt kitchen with laminate wood worktop, looks ok but really dont want laminate wood again. Internet users seem to all be against wood, is that justifiable??!! For info I have 2 teenage daughters, one elderly dog and 2 cats!! Also could you please advise if gloss doors scratch easily as would hate to look at marked doors especially as I will have floor to ceiling doors along one wall!!!

Also would love to hear any suggestions with floor. Thinking towards engineered wood or kardean vinyl tile (wood) as worried ceramic too cold and hard. At the moment I have pergo laminate laid on the original tile.
